Schedule your arrival no later than 4:30pm and take local transportation to the hotel. The tour will begin at the hotel at 6:00pm with our Welcome Meeting. Immediately following our Welcome Meeting we'll go to dinner to get better acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight Burlington - 1 night
Monday, 23 Sep 2019: Shelburne Museum Complex; Drive to Montpelier (B)
Explore and discover art, history, and the natural beauty of Vermont at Shelburne Museum, an unconventional and utterly delightful destination just outside Burlington. Folk art, Impressionist paintings, circus collections, and even a steamboat—it’s all here on a beautifully landscaped campus of historic buildings and galleries, each one filled with fascinating collections. We'll spend the morning exploring the exhibits - there is truly something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind museum. Later this afternoon, we depart Burlington for the short drive to Montpelier, the smallest state capital in the United States. Overnight Montpelier - 1 night
Tuesday, 24 Sep 2019: Montpelier State Capital Tour and Maple Farm (B,D)
Our day begins with a tour of the impeccably restored Montpelier State House, one of the oldest and best preserved in the country. After the tour, there is plenty of free time to explore this lovely town and have lunch on your own before we visit a maple farm for an education (and taste!) on how maple syrup is produced. We head to New Hampshire this afternoon via a leisurely drive to Bretton Woods and the Mount Washington area where we spend the next two nights. Overnight Bretton Woods, NH - 2 nights
Wednesday, 25 Sep 2019: Cannon Mountain, Flume Gorge (B,D)
Today we enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains. We'll take a wonderful tram ride up Cannon Mountain and visit Flume Gorge to enjoy a 2-mile nature walk to admire beautiful scenery and stunning waterfalls. Though some might find the gorge walk a bit challenging, the views at the end are worth it! The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. It was "discovered" in 1808 by 93-year-old “Aunt” Jess Guernsey when she accidentally came upon it while fishing. We return to Bretton Woods where you will have time to enjoy the amenities of this resort property.
Thursday, 26 Sep 2019: Portland and Ogunquit, Maine (B)
We leave New Hampshire and travel to Portland, Maine and make our way to the Portland Headlight (lighthouse). The Headlight was commissioned by George Washington and is one of the most photographed lighthouses in America. We will stop so you have time for lunch on your own before continuing on to Ogunquit with its beautiful sea walk and town. Enjoy the remainder of the afternoon exploring Ogunquit with your fellow travelers. Overnight Ogunquit, ME - 2 nights
Friday, 27 Sep 2019: Kennebunkport; Free Time; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Today we begin with a visit to Kennebunkport. Settled in the 1600s, this is a long-time ship-building mecca where five-masted ships and schooners made their way down the river to the sea. Sea captains built fine mansions, many of which are preserved today as lovely inns with antique charm. We return to Ogunquit this afternoon. You may want to walk along the “Marginal Way,” an outstanding and invigorating 1-¼ mile-long winding footpath along the rocky coastline that joins the village to the harbor. We gather this evening for our Farewell Dinner and reminisce about the fun week we've had together.
Saturday, 28 Sep 2019: Return Home from Portland, ME (B)
We will depart from Ogunquit to arrive at Portland Jetport in order to catch flights departing after 12 noon. Make your return flight no earlier than 12:00 noon. Airport transfer provided as one group.
