Arrive in Grand Junction no later than 5:30pm. The tour will begin at the hotel at 6:00pm.  After introductions we'll have dinner together to get acquainted and discuss our upcoming trip. Overnight Doubletree Grand Junction or similar.  (D)

Monday, August 3: Colorado Monument; Durango

Before departing Grand Junction, we will visit Colorado National Monument, one of the great landscapes of the American West with its red-sandstone monoliths and vividly colored canyon walls.  We will continue to Durango, a town that retains a lot of Victorian architecture and an Old West feel. Upon arrival the rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to explore. Overnight Hampton Inn Durango or similar. (B)

Tuesday, August 4: Durango Silverton Train

Our first train trip is the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The route winds through the spectacular canyons in the remote wilderness of the San Juan National Forest.  This historic train has been in continuous operation for 126 years carrying passengers behind vintage steam locomotives.

At the conclusion of the train trip we will travel to Pagosa Springs where we will spend the next two nights. There will be a stop along the way to get a sandwich for dinner so that we can continue driving. Overnight Pagosa Springs Resort or similar. (B, light Dinner)

Wednesday, August 5: Day at Leisure in Pagosa and Pagosa Springs Resort

What could be better than a day to relax and soak up the beauty of the San Juan River, the Mountains, and soak in the hot springs? Pagosa is renown for its "healing waters" and its beautiful setting near the Continental Divide. Enjoy a relaxing day exploring the town, or enjoying a myriad of recreational choices around Pagosa. This evening we'll gather and have dinner together. (B,D)

Thursday, August 6: Travel to train at Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
Today we leave early so that we can ride the original Rio Grande Line over the Rockies aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This is America's most spectacular narrow gauge steam railroad and it explores over 50 miles of wild and rugged territory between Antonito and Cumbres, the highest point on the railroad. At the conclusion of the train trip we travel on to Manitou Springs with a stop along the way for sandwiches. Overnight Hampton Inn or similar. (B, light Dinner)

Friday, August 7: Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods
This morning our first stop is to “Ride to the Clouds!” aboard the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest cog railroad in the U.S. Stretching nine miles long the cog railway vertically climbs 7,539 feet! There will be time at the top for lunch before returning.

The stunning Garden of the Gods is our next stop. It is a 1,300+ acre park where flora and fauna reflect the rich diversity of the terrain, and red sandstone formations tell a unique geological story. Leaving Garden of the Gods we continue on to Denver, our home for the next two nights. Overnight Comfort Inn Downtown Denver   (B)

Saturday, August 8: Denver, Farewell Dinner
Following breakfast we have a city tour of Denver, Capital of Colorado, including the State Capitol Building, Civic Center, Botanical Gardens and much more. The afternoon is yours to explore Denver. We'll gather together this evening for our last dinner together. (B, D)

Sunday, August 9: Return Home
Following breakfast we bid farewell to Colorado with fond memories of our western railroads adventure. The WTT tour leader will assist in coordinating ride-shares to the airport. (B)
