Frequently Asked Questions
We get a lot of
email and phone calls from women who have questions about all
sorts of things. We went through our email archives and pulled out
all of the questions that we have been asked over the years. We've
categorized the questions so that you can easily find the
information you are looking for. Just in case there is that one
question you have that we have not covered, the last question on
this list gives our email address so you can write to
us.
the travelers
What type of women travel with WTT?

On every tour we have women who are married, divorced,
widowed and single. Statistically on any given tour, you will find
the following composition:
• 30% Married Women
• 55% Single Women (this also includes divorced women)
• 15% Widowed Women
How many of the
women will be traveling alone?
Most of the women who travel with WTT are traveling
alone. On any tour you will find that most of the women are
traveling alone, whether it's their 1st trip or 5th trip with
WTT. We get a few women on every trip who come together
- two sisters, a mother/daughter, or two friends, but the
majority of the women will be single. That's what's so great about an all-women's group. You
can come by yourself, but won't be by yourself!
Are You a Lesbian Travel Company?
No. While all women are welcome to travel with WTT, we are not
a lesbian travel company.
What is the average age
of the women who travel with WTT?
The
majority of the women who travel with us are in their 40's, 50's
and 60's.
What is WTT's policy on smoking?
Our hotel rooms, transportation and all meals are
non-smoking. If a smoker wants to share a room with another
traveler, it will be a non-smoking room and the smoker will have
to go outside to smoke. Women who wish to smoke in their hotel
room must pay for a single room and then request WTT reserve a
smoking room.
While we do have the occasional smoker, most of the
women who travel with WTT do not smoke. We no longer ask
travelers if they do or do not smoke.
Do you get a lot of repeat travelers?
Yes! When women see how much fun it is to travel with
other women in a relaxed group setting, with plenty of activities,
but still have their independence, they love it and come back
again and again!
We now well over 100 women who traveled 4 or
more times with WTT. Some of those women have taken 10 trips with us and we
just recently had one of our travelers celebrate her 25th trip with
Women Traveling Together!
group size
What is the typical group size?
Our typical group size ranges from 10 to no more than 20 travelers.
You can generally expect an average group size of 14 plus the
WTT tour leader.
Is the group together all the time or is there time to explore
on my own?
We design our tours to include a balance of structured
time–planed activities included in the cost of the tour–with time
to explore on your own or with the other women. The tour leader
always makes recommendations on how to spend your free time, and
is also available most of the time to pal around with if you wish
to spend your free time with her.
accommodations
What type of
hotels do you stay in?
We choose hotels as close to the center of town and
activities as possible, balancing that with room rates. Our
choices are always clean, well maintained, and generally offer a
continental breakfast. In the U.S., we typically choose well know,
brand name hotels mixed with privately owned hotels, resorts, and
B&Bs. Outside the
U.S., we stay in hotels that reflect the charm and culture of the
country. All hotel rooms, whether in the U.S. or abroad, will have
a private bath with toilet. We will put a maximum of two women to
a room–each with her own bed.
roommates
Roomsharing is a
courtesy service provided by WTT.
We will
provide you a roommate unless:
- You tell us you want to room with someone in particular, or
- You
elect to pay the additional cost for a single room.
These
choices are clearly stated on the trip reservation form.
How do you match roommates?
Roommates are matched by age. Since all rooms are
non-smoking, this is not an issue.
Will I know who my roommate is before the trip?
Yes. A list of everyone going on the trip, along
with roommate assignments, is
included in the Traveler’s Information Package, sent out about
three
weeks before departure. You will have your roommate's email
address and phone number. WTT encourages roommates to contact
each other before the trip by phone.
Five minutes on the phone chit-chatting about the upcoming trip
will put you both at ease!
I haven’t shared a room in a long time. Should I get a single
room?
This is a personal choice. Single rooms are available
on most trips. A single room does cost
more, and a few women on every trip will choose a single room.
However, most will share a room with another traveler.
If you have some
anxiety around the idea of sharing a room, here are some things
to keep in mind:
1.
You’re only sharing a room: You can spend as
little or as much time with your roommate as you wish. There is
not expectation that roommates spend time together if they don’t
want to.
2.
It’s your responsibility to come prepared: If
your concern is that your roommate might snore, bring earplugs,
a sound machine, or other strategy to insure you can sleep.
3.
Consider the Positive: Getting to know a woman
that you might never ordinarily meet can be just as interesting
as the destination you are about to experience—and you might
make a new lifelong friend!
4.
Worried for Nothing: We hear from many women
after traveling who tell us that all their worrying was for
nothing. The roommate experience was a good one and they would
do it again.
what’s included
What is included in the cost of the trip?
Your tour price typically includes:
• "Meet & Greet" upon arrival by the WTT tour leader
• Airport transfers and transportation
• Services of the WTT tour leader and local guides
• Most dinners and breakfast daily
• Admission to all activities, parks, museums, etc.
(unless otherwise noted)
• Lodging in
centrally located hotels based on two persons
sharing a room with bath.
• Guaranteed roomshare (if
you would like to share a room with another women, we will pair
you up with another solo traveler).
The specific inclusions for each tour are clearly stated in the
"What is Included" box on each itinerary.
types of trips
Do you repeat the same trips every year?
No. In fact, every year is a new mix of tours. We believe
that there is so much to see in the world, it would be a
disservice to our travelers to offer the same thing year in and
year out. Typically we repeat the more popular tours every 3
years, and the more popular long weekend destinations every 18
months.
How physically fit do I have to be?
Every tour is different. A city tour will have a
different activity rating than a hiking trip in the Appalachian
Mountains. The "Activity Level" is clearly stated on each
itinerary just below the tour price.
WTT is not equipped to handle special needs
travelers. Often we depend on public transportation in cities. In
locations such as Europe, most attractions do not have handicap
facilities and many older European hotels do not have elevators.
trip deposit
How much of a deposit do I have to pay?
Is it refundable?
We require a $250 deposit on any Continental U.S. destination, and
a $500 deposit on any destination outside the Continental U.S. (i.e.
Alaska, Hawaii, Canada,
Europe, etc.). Depending on when you sign up for a trip will
depend on what the refund policy will be. See
Travel Policies on for further
details.
before & after
This is my first trip with WTT.
What happens after I sign up for a trip?
After you sign up for a trip, you will receive a number of
correspondences that will keep you informed and excited about the
upcoming trip. Here’s what you will receive:
• Deposit Confirmation Package–sent within 2 weeks of
receiving your deposit, it includes your deposit confirmation
and "Important Details" about the trip. You will also receive two travel
insurance brochures for your review and action.
• Final Invoice & Air Reservations–sent about 90 days
before the trip departs. Final payment is due within 2 weeks of
receipt of the invoice. If you have not done so already, you need to book your air
transportation. We ask that you provide WTT with your air
information when returning your final payment.
• Traveler’s Information Package–sent 2-3 weeks prior to
departure, the package includes roommate assignments, where
WTT will meet you when you arrive, hotel information, what
to pack, and all sorts of other information.
How do I know what to pack, what
the weather will be like and who my roommate will be?
Two to three weeks prior to departure, all travelers
will receive their Traveler’s Information Package. This package
communicates all the final information about the tour, weather,
packing, and roommate assignments. It includes things such as
where to meet upon arrival, a list of all the women on the tour
with roommate assignments and everyone’s email, phone number and
flight schedules. You will also given the addresses and phone
numbers for the hotels and other important details relevant to the
trip. We even include the popular information sheet "How to be a
Good Roommate."
How do you find everyone when we arrive? What if my flight is
delayed?
Finding you when you arrive is very easy. You will have
round, bright yellow luggage tags (provided in your Traveler’s
Information Package) that will help the tour leader find you and
allow you to spot fellow travelers. These tags work great and are
easily seen. We also have easy instructions telling you what to do
if your flight is delayed (again, this information is found in
your Traveler’s Information Package). Bottom line–don’t worry
about connecting with the group. We have been doing this for years
and have it down to a fine science.
Can I arrive a day early or stay after the tour is over?
Yes, In most cases WTT can make arrangements so that you can
stay in the same hotel the group is using should you wish to
arrive a day early or stay after the tour completes. Many women,
because of plane schedules, do arrive a day early. Travel
documents will list everyone who is arriving early. See the
specific itinerary for early arrival details.
travel insurance, etc.
Does WTT offer Travel Insurance?
Yes. When we send out your Deposit Confirmation (about
2 weeks after you sign up for a trip) we also include two choices
for travel insurance. Use either of these companies, or choose
your own travel insurance provider. We recommend strongly that you
obtain travel insurance. A tour is a large investment and you
should protect it as you would any other important investment.
What is the business structure of Women Traveling Together?
Women Traveling Together is a trade name of D&D
Communications, Inc., a Maryland corporation and has been
operating since 1997.
Is Women Traveling Together insured?
YES. WTT carries liability insurance and protects all tour
money in Escrow Accounts.
Where is your office?
Our national headquarters is located just outside
Annapolis, Maryland. We have a second office in Spartanburg, South
Carolina where all membership correspondence and trip payments are
handled.
