Air Information
Travelers will make their own air reservations and are requested to arrive and depart as follows:

Airport: Pellston, Michigan (PLN)
 

Arrive: The tour begins Friday, July 16, at 5:30pm with a reception at the hotel. It will take an hour and a half to get from the airport to the hotel.

Depart: The tour concludes on Sunday, July 18. Make your air reservations at your convenience, remembering to allow 2 hours to get from the island dock to the airport and have time to check in.

Early Arrival:
WTT is not making early arrival arrangements for this trip.

Late Departure:
For those who wish to stay an additional night at the Grand Hotel, including dinner on Sunday evening and breakfast on Monday, the cost will be:

     $ 260 per person, dbl room
     $ 405 per person, sgl room
WTT will not guarantee a roomshare for this night, therefore travelers who wish to share a room must inform WTT whom their roommate will be.

- No vehicles are allowed on Mackinac Island except for  emergency use. As such, the transportation options for getting around the island are on foot, bike, or by hired horse-drawn taxis.

- The property of the Grand Hotel is large. To fully enjoy the expansive grounds, walking is required.

-Air to and from your home.

- Airport transfers

- Carriage ride from Grand Hotel to Dock at conclusion of the tour

- Meals and activities not specified in the itinerary

- Any personal expenses and any WTT tour leader gratuities

Friday, July 16 : Arrive Mackinac Island, Welcome Reception and Dinner

Today you will arrive at Pellston Airport on the mainland. Take locally available transportation with fellow WTT travelers who arrived on your same flight from the airport to the ferry dock in Mackinac City, a 40 minute trip. Upon arrival at the ferry dock you will pick up your pre-paid ferry ticket and horse drawn taxi transfer ticket to be used on Mackinac Island from the dock to Grand Hotel.

Mackinac Island lies just 20 minutes away by ferry, which departs every half hour.  It's a delightful ride as you cross the Mackinac Straits and see the Grand Hotel grow larger and larger as you approach the island. The hotel porter will meet you dockside to take our bags.  Step on to your waiting horse drawn carriage and ride to the hotel.

Upon arriving at the Grand Hotel check in is available beginning at 4:00pm. Should you arrive earlier in the day, ask if you room is ready, but if not, leave your bags with the bellman and go explore the grounds of the hotel. 

At 5:30pm enjoy a private welcome reception for our group with wine, cheese and fruit. Meet your fellow travelers and compare notes as to what you want to see and do while on Mackinac Island and at the Grand Hotel. The dining room of the hotel opens at 6:30pm for your enjoyment. (Reception, D)
 

 The promotional poster for the movie "Somewhere in Time" is shown to the right.  Released in 1980, this movie was filmed on Mackinac Island and at the Grand Hotel. Be sure and see the movie. The movie scenery will inspire you to take this trip! It really is that beautiful.

Saturday, July 17 : Full Day to Enjoy Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island

This day is yours. With some guidance from the hotel concierge, you'll be off to explore the historic fort, visit a butterfly farm, or maybe rent a bike and cycle around the island - a very popular pastime. Or, if you like to sit by the water, you can watch the ferries travel across the Straits, making "roister tails." What surprises most people when they see the water of Lake Huron for the first time is how sparkling clean and clear it is. If you choose to spend part or all of the day at the Grand Hotel you will find plenty to do. Breakfast and dinner are included; lunch can be enjoyed in town at any one of several restaurants, or you can have lunch at the Grand Luncheon Buffet at the hotel.

Tonight, enjoy another wonderful meal at the hotel and share your day's adventures with new WTT friends.  (B, D)

Sunday, July 18 : Morning at Leisure and Return Home

What a treat it has been to stay at one of the finest historical hotels in America!  Breakfast is at your leisure and checkout time is 11:00am. Stay as long as you wish on the island today; your bags will be taken to the ferry terminal for you.

Make your return air reservations at your convenience but allow two hours to get back from the dock to the mainland leisurely by ferry and to travel to the airport. (B)
