Las Vegas, NV
And the Desert Beauty Beyond

October 27 - 31, 2009

Las Vegas offers a lot in terms of man-made attractions, but for those willing to venture a few miles out of town, a whole world of natural beauty awaits. We will use our time in Las Vegas to experience the best of both worlds. Our time is equally divided between the strip and two trips out of the city. Our first destination is Valley of Fire where the sensation of being in another world will strike you. Later on our trip we will take a gentle float trip down the Colorado River. You'll be able to tell your friends you "rafted the Colorado!" Don't worry, no rafting experience is necessary, the water is calm and the scenery is spectacular.
We always have a great time in Las Vegas, and this trip will be even more special. Plan to join us!

Tentative Itinerary

Tuesday, October 27 : Arrive Las Vegas
Arrive in Las Vegas at your convenience but no later than 5:30pm. The WTT tour leader will greet you at the hotel and will make suggestions as to how best to use your day in Las Vegas before we meet for dinner at 6:30pm followed by an orientation meeting of the activities to come. (D)

Wednesday, October 28 : Valley of Fire and Lost City Museum
This spectacular adventure takes place in the Valley of Fire State Park. A combination of paved and gentle off-road, this wilderness tour gives you the feeling that you are on another planet. The Aztec Sandstone formations are beyond belief. Ancient Indian Petroglyphs are abundant in this area. Rainbow Vistas is an incredible view where you can look back 150 million years in time. With many scheduled photo stops, this is the crown jewel of  photographic/sightseeing adventures. You will need lots of film and are guaranteed to leave this area spellbound!

We also stop at the amazing Lost City Museum which has one of the most complete collections of the early Pueblo Indian artifacts in the Southwest. This display starts with the Desert Culture of 10,000 years ago and continues through the Ancient “Basketmaker” cultures, which existed until about 500 A.D. A deli style lunch is included and we will be back in Las Vegas by early afternoon to enjoy some time on the Strip. (B,L)

Thursday, October 29 : Free Day in Las Vegas
We have set aside today to enjoy the sights and sounds of Las Vegas. There is so much to see and do, no matter what your interests are. Your WTT tour leader will make suggestions as to how you could spend your day. (B)

Friday, October 30 : Grand Canyon Float Trip, Farewell Dinner

Our final full day in the area is a leisurely float trip down the Colorado River. You will love it! No rafting experience is necessary and the water is calm. This soft adventure gently flows from the very base of the Hoover Dam, affording a view and perspective of the dam available nowhere else. Along the way, expert guides point out the soaring birds of prey, the gravity defying bighorn sheep, and the unexpected waterfalls and bubbling hot springs. During your ride back to Las Vegas, you’ll cross over Hoover Dam. Lunch is included in the tour! After returning to Las Vegas we will freshen up and go to dinner together. (L, D)

Saturday, October 31 : Return Home
What a fun few days we've had! Make you return flight at your convenience. (B)
