Thursday, June 28 – Arrive San Jose – Welcome Dinner (D)
Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica at your convenience but no later than 5:00pm Group transfers provided to the hotel based on arrival time. The tour begins at 6:30pm in the lobby of the hotel where we will meet as a group, make introductions, and then have dinner together at the hotel. Should you arrive earlier in the day, enjoy the hotel amenities or take a cab into San Jose. Doubletree Cariari Hotel (1 night)
Friday, June 29 – San Jose/Pacuare River (B,D)
We will depart San Jose in the morning driving through lush green farmlands to the banks of the Pacuare River, one of the top five rivers in the world for its scenery & rapids. Expert guides will provide you with the rafting gear and instruction before our adventure begins (class III rapids).
We will be on the river about 1 hour today, arriving at our secluded river lodge around 3pm. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. You may want to try a canopy adventure, a hike to the waterfalls or just relax and enjoy nature. Overnight Pacuare River 1 night.
The Pacuare River is one of the top five rivers in the world for its scenery. The Pacuare runs through some of the most beautiful and pristine rainforest in Costa Rica. Much of the land is reserved for indigenous people and will never be developed. At the banks of the river our expert guides will provide everyone their rafting gear before we get in the rafts. Each raft holds 6 plus the guide. If you are comfortable around water you will LOVE this rafting adventure. No rafting experience is necessary. The river passes through scenic canyons where waterfalls plummet down into the rapidly coursing river below.
Saturday, June 30 – Pacuare River Rafting (B, L)
Prepare for the second expedition! Rafting becomes more thrilling as you begin to use the skills you have learned. We may stop to explore streams that lead to striking waterfalls and pools with a natural waterslide that tempts you to jump right in. The day ends having conquest one of the wildest and most scenic rivers in the world. After lunch we travel to the Sarapiquí area for overnight. Overnight La Quinta Sarapiqui 2 nights.
Sunday, July 1 – Sarapiqui / Cocoa Tour (B, D)
Today’s tour will open the secrets and wonders of one of mankind’s favorite foods: chocolate. A guide will lead our group on a gentle walk and explain the natural and cultural history of the cacao tree. The artisanal process by which cacao fruit is transformed into chocolate will be demonstrated. Taste different kinds of chocolate, which are prepared on the spot in the traditional way. We will have lunch at a local restaurant (
not included in tour price) and then return to our hotel for the afternoon. Here you can do a float trip on a lazy river that circles the property, walk around the trails, visit the butterfly garden and more. Dinner is at the hotel this evening.
Monday, July 2 – Arenal Volcano Walk and Baldi Hot Springs (B, D)
Today we travel to the Arenal area. The rain forest of Arenal offers a diverse variety of ecosystems, some of the most natural beauty of Costa Rica and the majestic Arenal volcano with its spectacular thundering explosions.
In the afternoon we visit the Arenal Volcano. Enjoy the most extraordinary view of the Arenal Volcano on a gentle hike along the base of this marvelous “Mountain of Fire”. Following the hike, we will enjoy a relaxing time at Baldí Hot Springs. It is also possible to see the Arenal Volcano erupting from a comfortable spa or while you are having your dinner. Tuesday, July 3 - ATV Excursion and Afternoon at Leisure (B)
Our adventure begins with an orientation meeting and the instructions to operate your ATV. Your tour will not only give you the opportunity for adventure and fun, but you will also enjoy nature and unique views of the majestic Arenal Volcano. We ride to La Fortuna Waterfall first, next to Jauri Town to observe different types of plantations and we will continue to La Guaria Town, overlooking the Arenal River. The return trail goes through pastureland and includes a stop to enjoy the Arenal Volcano while your guide will explain its history on your way back to the station. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the town, or the beauty of our hotel pool that allows a fantastic view of the volcano.
Wednesday, July 4 – Zip Lining, Mud Baths, Horse back ride, oh my! (B,L,D)
Today we travel to the Guanacaste province in the North Pacific coast. It is Costa Rica’s largest region with unique towns, fantastic beaches, belching volcanoes and unbelievable wildlife. We will depart early so that we can take full advantage of our time at Borinquen Resort where we will enjoy a variety of activities. We will zip-line (also known as a canopy tour) enjoy a mud bath and have lunch while here. You can choose to travel to the start point of the canopy tour by horse or by jeep.
Our day concludes on the Pacific Ocean at the all inclusive Westin Playa Conchal. This wonderful resort offers as much excitement or as much relaxing as you want. We have 2 unstructured days here at the suggestion of the last WTT group so that you can fully take advantage of the amenities and truly relax! Overnight Westin Playa Conchal - 3 nights.
Thursday, July 5 - Westin Playa Conchal at Leisure (B, L, D)
Enjoy your day at leisure and all the activities offered by the hotel including a spa, 2 acre swimming pool, tennis courts, or go kayaking, horse back riding, rent a bike, and more. (
not all activities or the spa are free) You can also take optional tours that depart from the resort or go into the closest town to the resort, although you may not want to leave this paradise.
Friday, July 6 - Westin Playa Conchal at Leisure (B, L, D)
The pool has palm trees growing on islands in the middle, a swim up bar where you can have unlimited beverages (with or without alcohol), a zip line course high above, and comfortable lounge chairs to read or take a nap....you could spend the day here and many of the women on our last visit to Playa Conchal did just that! We will have dinner together at the resort to celebrate our time together in Costa Rica.
Saturday, July 7 - Return Home (B)
Today we will have 2 transfers based on departure time to the Liberia airport. Make your departure at your convenience remembering that the airport is 1 hour away and you will need to arrive 2 hours before your flight.
