To take this trip you need only one
thing – the ability to laugh! As we discussed our previous
experience with the various activities planned for the week, it
was pretty clear that we’d have a lot to laugh about –
considering most of us had little to no experience with any of
the planned activities.
Our first adventure - snowshoeing - was beautiful and easy to
master. Everyone caught on quickly and we walked to the top of a
hill that overlooked Lake Superior.
It
was so beautiful! We wondered by a stream and walked through the
woods. It was so quiet and peaceful. Everyone loved it!
We tried our hand at cross country skiing
and found that once you got the hang on the walking motion on
skies it was easy. We took flat trails that allowed us to
get into a rhythm and just enjoy the beauty of our surroundings.
Of course the main reason everyone came on
the trip was for the dog sledding. We learned how to
harness
our dogs, how to make them go (not a problem!), and how to make
them stop. Then we were off on trails that meandered
through open fields, into the woods, and across a frozen pond.
It was beyond description. You will never know the joy and
laughter that we experienced...words cannot convey the feelings.
You have to do it for yourself. For so many of us, it was one of
the most remarkable life experiences we had ever had! The
bond with the dogs, the freedom of the trail and the sheer
exhilaration of this unbelievable experience. "I'm really
doing this!" The day was not just mushing - we all got to
sit in the sled and ride with a professional musher at the
controls. What a fabulous day it was! We will never forget
it.
Our our free day everyone went snowmobiling and we
laughed at the joy of white snow, open trails, magnificent
vistas and getting the courage to go faster than 5 miles an
hour!
Each night at dinner we’d share our discoveries, our joy,
our mishaps, and with every story we’d
laugh. We laughed at ourselves, we laughed with each other and
we laughed at the fun of the entire experience. How great we
felt that we could embrace such fun, no matter how inexperienced
we were. I don’t think any of us will ever forget the fun we had
on this trip.
Return To Dogsledding & Winter Fun Itinerary
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of weeks after the trip completed
the WTT office received a beautiful coffee table book created
by two of the women on the trip. On the inside cover of the book
they wrote:
Thanks for a GREAT Vacation - Dogsledding was amazing!
Whether traveling alone or with a friend,
we hope to join you again for many more adventures. |
